Rita Garland is a graduate of the Irish School of Homeopathy in Dublin and is registered with the Irish Society of Homeopaths. Rita was born in Portugal and moved to Dublin in 1994 where she now lives with her husband and four young children. Her early interests involve literature, music and community gardening, but following a life changing experience with homeopathy 6 years ago she has since dedicated much of her time to passionately learning and practicing this wonderful healing art. She is also very enthusiastic about promoting Homeopathy and outreach community work. From February 2009 she has been working in a free holistic clinic in the Fatima Mansions as part of the Fatima Health Initiative project. Other interests involve research and working in the field of mental health. “Like musical instruments out of tune, and often constrained by the stresses of our present mode of living, we can, at times, find ourselves living at odds with our inner nature and sense of purpose. As a gentle holistic therapy homeopathy helps the individual to find his true pitch and lead a more harmonious life.”
What is homeopathy and how does it work? Homeopathy is a system of medicine devised by the German doctor Samuel Hahnemann about 200 years ago. It has since expanded into one of the most sought after complementary medicines all over the world. It is based on the ancient healing principle that “like cures like”. A good example for this would be the successful treatment of an acute state of sleeplessness and nervous excitement with the remedy Coffea Cruda. This remedy is a homeopathic preparation of coffee, which, as we know, if taken in normal doses, may cause a similar state of wakefulness. Unlike conventional medicine, that many times suppresses our natural responses, homeopathy empowers the wisdom of our system and works with “the doctor within” by stimulating the individual’s energy and own healing abilities.
