Hatha Yoga is, officially, any kind of Yoga that involves physical postures for building flexibility and strength. Nearly all Yoga, in the West then, falls under the Hatha Yoga umbrella Unofficially, however, Hatha Yoga has come to describe a reasonably gentle, less aerobic form of Yoga class. Classes normally involve some physical posture work, (either flowing or more static), Pranayama,(energy control through breathing techniques), and relaxation/meditation. At the Olive Tree Studio we have a number of Hatha Yoga classes throughout the week, daytime and evenings. Hatha Yoga classes at The Olive Tree Studio are taught by Estelle Birdy, Valerie Kent and Christina Breen.
Vinyasa Yoga is a form of Hatha Yoga. Vinyasa Yoga involves moving from yoga posture to posture in a flowing sequence. Vinyasa Yoga is thought to be quite an athletic and aerobically challenging form of yoga. Vinyasa Yoga, (sometimes known as Flow Yoga), come from the Ashtanga Yoga tradition in India. Vinyasa Yoga has become possibly the most popular form of yoga amongst practitioners in the West. At The Olive Tree Studio, Vinyasa Yoga is taught by Kim Jacob, Valerie Kent and Estelle Birdy
Another form of Hatha Yoga, Shadow Yoga is a school of yoga founded by Zhander Remete, which begins the process of clearing the body and mind through the practice of fixed forms or ‘preludes’.The preludes serve to undo habitual patterns of tension which obstruct the movement of the vital breath and the life force, (Prana). Tension and restriction occur in specific areas of the body known as marma, the vital junctions. Practice of the preludes of Shadow Yoga develops an awareness of marma and provides a means of overcoming these restrictions. This is achieved through the use of warrior-forms (viraparampara) to remove obstructions in the body, spine, hips and shoulders and the limbs, and sun-forms (suryanamaskar) to energise the spine. As tension is released through the work of the prelude the energy is then directed into the practise of yoga-asana. At the Olive Tree Studio, Shadow Yoga is taught by Ruth Walshe
